Outdoor Shiitake Mushroom Cultivation on Hardwood Logs

Location:         Hosted by Mycosource Inc. at Fun Guy Farm, Goodwood, Ontario

Cost:                $100.00* per person or $150 for a couple/partners

 

Includes:

The book, “Growing Shiitake in a Continental Climate”, printed materials by Mycosource Inc (spawn use, log management, Frequently Asked Questions), 2 “Shiitake” logs inoculated at the workshop, as well as discounts on pre-ordered spawn (15% discount for spawn picked up at the workshop). We will end the workshop with a Shiitake tasting and a beverage.

 *If a registrant already has a book the cost of the book ($25) will be deducted from the price.

 

We will send the book to registrants ahead so that participants can be prepared to get the most out of the workshop.  Participants who are planning a project to inoculate logs should cut or order their logs ahead of time (we do not supply raw logs) and take delivery during March or April so that they are ready for inoculation following the workshop. It is best to use spawn within 2 weeks.  Orders for spawn should be placed prior to the workshop so that it will be ready to take home from the workshop to save shipping costs. We will also sell pre-inoculated logs at a cost of $15/log for workshop participants (a 40% discount from the regular price; limit of 5 inoculated logs per customer).

 

Itinerary:

12:30 pm – Meet & Greet/Registration

1:00 pm – Introductory lecture with slides. An overview of gourmet mushrooms & cultivation

1:30 pm - Log inoculation. This is a hands-on demonstration.  Participants will drill and inoculate 2 logs to take home.  Question & Answer

3:30 pm - Log management. Tour of our laying yard, soaking tanks, sprinkler set-up, and fruiting set-up.  This session will give detailed information about log management and harvesting. Open discussion including marketing, equipment, raw materials sourcing, and other operational issues, Question & Answer.

5:00 p.m  End of session. Pick-up of ordered spawn and other materials.
