Books

Several books are available on outdoor and indoor cultivation.  We no longer carry a full range of books because they are expensive to keep in stock and because you can order via Amazon.com.  There are many excellent  wild mushroom identification guides available as well as books about Kombucha and medicinal mushrooms.  We recommend "Kombucha: healthy beverage from the Far East" by Gunther Frank as well as the Kombucha book by Rosina Fasching. You will find comprehensive information about Kombucha on the internet -- www.kombucha.com for example.

Custom sterilization

We will custom sterilize bags of your substrate recipe (grain, sawdust etc.). Minimum order required. Call 416 963 5520 or e-mail office@mycosource.com.

Equipment

Currently we have equipment for spawn plug production and equipment related to log inoculation.

We have contacts for machinery from Japan for large-scale sawdust block and bottle production. If this is of interest to you please let us know.

Kits

Ready to grow kits for home use - check for availability by calling and/or emailing.

Kombucha

Kombucha culture kits for making your own Kombucha health drink.

Logs

Inoculated logs for your backyard or cottage.  See the picture of Shiitake below. Please note that we do not provide raw logs for inoculation.  If you are planning to do an inoculation project you must secure your own logs.  Logs should be cut after leaf fall in the autumn and before leaf bud in the spring; they can 'rest' over the winter laying off the ground on a skid or other device to keep them off the ground, covered with snow.  Do not leave exposed logs in full sunlight during the winter -- cover with burlap or a tarp that can 'breathe'.

Medicinal Mushrooms Products

Dried organic Reishi ( Ling zhi).

Small fruit body of Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) growing on sawdust substrate.

Fresh Mushrooms

We sell fresh mushrooms at several Farmer's Markets in Toronto.

Please come and visit us there for several Oyster Mushroom varieties

     and Shiitake.

Spawn

Spawn is the name for the mushroom inoculant which is a culture (of mycelium) grown out on various media. For log growers we have bulk sawdust spawn and sawdust plug spawn. For sawdust block growers we have grain or sawdust spawn.

SHIPPING OF SPAWN OUTSIDE CONTINENTAL NORTH AMERICA POSES SEVERAL PROBLEMS:

  1. A PHYTO-SANITARY CERTIFICATE FOR SHIPPING LIVE MUSHROOM SPAWN FROM YOUR AGRICULTURAL DEPARTMENT WILL MOST LIKELY BE REQUIRED AND SHOULD BE OBTAINED BEFORE ORDERING, OR YOUR ORDER MAY BE HELD UP AT CUSTOMS. DELAYS WILL LEAD TO DAMAGED OR DEAD SPAWN.
  2. SHIPPING CAN ONLY BE DONE BY COURIER AND WILL BE VERY EXPENSIVE.

WE SUGGEST ORDERING CULTURES THAT YOU CAN PROPAGATE YOURSELF AS THEY CAN BE MAILED AND WILL PROBABLY NOT BE HELD UP BY CUSTOMS.

For European spawn please contact Menno Haveman in Holland
