Introductory Workshops

Outdoor Shiitake Mushroom Cultivation on Hardwood Logs

Dates:                   Sunday April 29, 2012 ( if demand warrants we will have a second workshop on Sunday May 6, 2012)

Location:                Hosted by Mycosource Inc. at Fun Guy Farm, Goodwood, Ontario

Investment:            $100.00* per person or $150 for a couple/partners + HST   Registration and Pre-payment required

 Includes:

Printed materials by Mycosource Inc (spawn use, log management, FAQs);  2 Shiitake logs inoculated at the workshop; a discount on cultivation books and pre-ordered spawn (15% discount for spawn picked up at the workshop).   Participants who are planning a project to inoculate logs must cut and/or source and order their logs ahead of time (we do not supply raw logs) and take delivery during March or April so that logs are ready for inoculation following the workshop. It is best to use spawn within 2 weeks.  Orders for spawn should be placed before March 15 so that it will be ready to take home from the workshop to receive the discount and save shipping costs. Cost of spawn for workshop participants will be discounted at 15% when pre-ordered & prepaid.

 Itinerary:

12:30 pm – Meet & Greet/Registration

1:00 pm – Introductory lecture with slides. An overview of gourmet mushrooms & cultivation

1:30 pm - Log inoculation. This is a hands-on demonstration.  Participants will drill and inoculate 2 logs to take home in small groups*.  Q & A.

3:30 pm - Log management. Small group*  tour of our laying yard, soaking tanks, sprinkler set-up, and fruiting yard set-up.  This session will give detailed information about log management and harvesting. Open discussion including marketing, equipment, raw materials sourcing, and other operational issues, Question & Answer – all questions will be answered.        *small groups will rotate between inoculation & touring

5:00 p.m  Mushroom tasting / Recipe sharing / Beverages (beer and non-alcoholic coolers)

End of session. Pick-up of ordered spawn and other materials.      Large orders – please arrive early to finalize payment & load.
